JAMMU, Aug 17: Taking out of Prabhat pharis, Shoba yatras and holding of religious functions marked the celebration of Janam Ashtami- the birthday of Lord Krishna across the Jammu region today.
All the city temples in general and those of Lord Krishna in particular were fully decorated on the occasion. A large number of people thronged these temples from early in the morning while heavy rush of devotees was seen from the evening to midnight.
The devotees paid obeisance to Lord Krishana in the temples and participated in recitation of Bhajan Kirtan. The religious discourses were also given by spiritual Gurus on the life and teachings of Lord Krishna and Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta.
The main function was held in historical Raghunath Mandir in Jammu where hundreds of devotees thronged up to midnight and participated in the celebrations which continued up to late night hours. The devotees were served prashad after culmination of the function.
The people burst crackers at midnight the birth time of Lord Krishna at various places while Shoba yatras were also taken out in different parts of city and other parts of the region.
Besides the Raghunath temple, the functions on occasion of Janam Ashtami were held at Gandhi Nagar temple complex near Gole Market, ISKCON Temple, Dream City Muthi, Krishna temple, Dharmal, Barnai, Sarore, Bari Brahmana, Gurah Keran, Bantalab, Durga Nagar, Janipur, Purani Mandi temple, New Plots, Sarwal, Subash Nagar, Canal road, Talab Tillo, Geeta Satsang Ashram Muthi and all other temples of city.
A large number of devotees including men women and children participated in these functions and paid obeisance to Lord Krishna.
Hundreds of devotees thronged the Geeta Satsang Ashram Muthi on the occasion of Janam Ashtami today where week long celebrations concluded with Aarti and Prasad Vtran at midnight.
The Abhishekh of Lord Krishana and Radha was also performed which was followed by pooja archana. A Shoba Yatra was also taken out which passed from various parts of Jammu city and migrant camps. The religious discourses were given by Swami Kumar Ji and he threw light on the teachings of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta..
Another function was organized by Manav Utthan Sewa Samiti at its Ashram Rajpura Mangotrian in which a large number of devotees took part. On the occasion Mahatma Amarbelanand Ji delivered the religious discourses and highlighted the teachings of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta. The devotees from various parts of Jammu participated in the function which culminated during midnight.
A grand function was organized by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwaria Vidalaya at Rehari Chungi. On this occasion a cultural programme was also held to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. MP Jammu -Poonch, Jugal Kishore Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. B K Sudershan gave religious discourses and highlighted the teachings of Lord Krishana.
The Janam Ashtami was celebrated in New Rock Land Public School, Krishna Vihar Janipur also. The kids of the school were dressed as Lord Krishana and Radha and they presented a colorful programme on the life of Lord Krishna and Radha. Principal of the School Vandana Bhadwal distributed prizes among the winners.
A mammoth Krishna Janki was taken out at Tomal, Bohri near here to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna today. Hundreds of devotees
participated including men, women and children participated in the procession.
The children wore a colorful dress to present Bal Leela of Shri Krishna popularly known as Bal Gopal. The Janki passed through all the lanes and by lanes which were fully decorated to give a festive look. Special Bajan Mandli was arranged who sung Krishna bajans during the whole time enroute. The entire route was fully decorated with well-come gates by the people of the area. People served the devotees with water and fruit and showered flower petals on the Krishan Janki.The chariot of Sh.Krishan started from Swami Atma Ram Ashram Gosain Gund Tomal and after passing through various routes culminated at the same place.
According to reports Janam Ashtami was celebrated in other towns of the region including Samba, Vijaypur, Bari Brahmana, Bishnah, R S Pura, Akhnoor, Khour, Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kalakote, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Nagrota, Hiranagar, Kathua, Ghagwal, Billawar, Basohli, Bani, Bhadarwah, Kishtwar, Ramban Doda, Batote, Chennani, Udhampur, Ramnagar, Reasi and holy township of Katra. A large number of devotees from these townships participated in the celebrations.
The Janam Ashtami was also celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in migrant camps at Vessu, Shikhpora, Baramulla, Tulmulla and Mattan of Kashmir Valley today.
Meanwhile Impressive ‘Shobha Yatras’ were taken out in Gandhinagar (Jammu), Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Nowshera, Mendhar and other parts of the region on the occasion of Shri Krishan Janamashtami today.
Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple Management Trust organised an impressive Rath Yatra/ Shobha Yatra from Temple at Gandhinagar, Jammu today. The ‘Jhanki’ commenced at around 12 noon and it after passing through entire Gandhi Nagar, Gole Market, Gandhinagar Extension and Shastri Nagar culminated at the same place. Thousands of devotees including women and children besides spiritual personalities attended the programme.
The temple idols were mounted on a highly decorated chariot and people were pulling the Rath. They were chanting religious songs in praise of Lord Krishna. Followers of Harey Krishna Mission also participated in the Shobha Yatra. The programme was organised under the chairmanship of Gulachain Singh Charak former minister and chairman of the Trust and S C Rekhi, general secretary.
In Poonch city, an impressive Shobha Yatra was taken out in which over 10,000 to 12,000 people participated. The devotees including women and children with great enthusiasm participated in this grand religious function. The Jhakies from Magnad, Jallas, Gulpur, Ajot and several other adjoining villages joined the main Shobha Yatra in Poonch city. Impressive Shoba Yatras were taken out in Rajouri, Nowshera, Reasi, Katra and other towns of the region also.
In Chenani and Migrant Camp, Nagrota also the people took out a grand ‘Shobha Yatras’ this evening. The reports of similar Jhankies have been received from various other parts of the region.
