Janelle Monae lands space drama movie role

LOS ANGELES, Mar 8:  Singer Janelle Monae has landed a leading role in space drama “Hidden Figures”.
The star, 30, will appear alongside Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer and Kevin Costner in the film, based on the true story of three African-American women who helped astronaut John Glenn become the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962, reported The Wrap.
Henson, Spencer and Monae will play mathematicians Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, respectively, while Costner will co-star as the head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) space programme.
The film will be directed by Ted Melfi and will be based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s book, “Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race”, which is set to be published in September. (PTI)
