Janmashtami being celebrated across Bangladesh

Dhaka, Aug 26:Janmashtami, one of the major festivals of the minority Hindu community commemorating the birth of Lord Sri Krishna, is being celebrated across Bangladesh on Monday with religious fervour and gaiety, media reports said.
This year’s celebrations hold special significance as the Hindu community is still recovering from the shock due to attacks from radicals during the quota reforms protests. Many temples and homes of Hindus were damaged in arson coinciding with the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier this month.
The day of Janmashtami is a public holiday in Bangladesh, the Prothom Alo reported.
According to Hindu mythology, Sri Krishna was born on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the Bangla month of Bhadra, and he takes birth at all ages in the world to safeguard the good and pious people from the hands of malevolent people by establishing truth, justice, and beauty in society.
Temples and religious organisations and institutions have also chalked out programs to celebrate the Janmashtami festival.
According to the media reports, Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and other private TV channels and radio stations will air special programs showcasing Lord Sri Krishna’s life and philosophy.
The Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee have organised a central program at Dhakeshwari National Temple.
According to Prothom Alo reports, the Dhakeshwari National Temple will host nightly Krishna puja.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) held a three-day program on Monday at Swamibagh Asram in the capital to mark the festival, reports said.
