TOKYO, Feb 28: Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso said on Thursday that he was cautious about proposals that the Bank of Japan buy foreign bonds as that could be seen as currency intervention.
Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa also said that while the central bank can buy different types of assets, the law does not allow it to buy foreign bonds for the purpose of currency intervention.
Aso and Shirakawa spoke in the lower house budget committee.
