KATHUA, Feb 27: Taking serious notice of power crisis in Kathua and in view of taking timely steps for restoring proper supply ahead of fast approaching summer season, MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia today inaugurated Rs 62 crore worth Restructured Accelerated Power Development Programme (R-APDRP) scheme in the district.
Besides Kathua town, villages like Chan, Khorote, Janglote and Govindsar will also be benefitted under the scheme.
While speaking on the occasion, Jasrotia said that with Power Development Department’s failure in minimizing the Transmission and Distribution losses (T&D) in the State, the Centre has finally come to its rescue by approving Rs 3115.09 crore Restructured Accelerated Power Development Programme (R-APDRP) scheme to reduce it in future.
“The huge T&D losses since early 90s have affected power sector heavily and the J&K is the only State in India, where about 70 percent energy is lost due to power pilferage and transmission and distribution losses”, he said and blamed consumers for over usage of electricity.
Explaining the significance of scheme, the MLA said that R-APDRP focused on actual, demonstrable performance in terms of sustained loss reduction. This is proposed to be achieved in two parts: Part A of the scheme envisages establishment of base line data which includes consumer indexing, GIS mapping and metering of distribution transformers and feeders and SCADA/DMS (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System/Data Management System) in project areas while Part B of the scheme is for renovation, modernization and strengthening of distribution systems.
