Jat Mahasabha deputation meets Div Com

All India Jat Mahasabha deputation during a meeting with Divisional Commissioner Jammu.

JAMMU, May 31: A deputation of All India Jat Mahasabha J&K led by its president, Ch. Manmohan Singh here today met Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma.
The deputation members said that there was destruction caused by floods in Basantar few years before and chances of same situation still persists due to lack of proper disaster management.
The deputation demanded Flood Protection Bund along the sides of river Basantar.
The Divisional Commissioner said that his office has received funds of Rs 14 crore after directions from Governor’s office to start the project of Flood Management and money for the same has been released.
The deputation also took the issue of recent fires in Samba and Jammu wherein crops were destroyed.
Issue of pump sets for watering fields by farmers wherein wooden poles are being used which during winds fall and cause fire increasing risk of crop burn was also raised.
The deputation said that the farmers whose crop has been burnt should be paid Rs 3000 per kanal as compensation.
Manmohan Singh also asked the Divisional Commissioner to direct Agriculture Department to revise rates of seed and other basic necessities.
The Divisional Commissioner called on Chief Engineer PDD and asked him to change wooden poles to cement poles immediately to prevent fire incidents and assured that he will form a committee to overlook the status of financial loss suffered by people and formulate the compensation plan soon.
