AHMEDABAD, Feb 1: Mahatma Gandhi’s fourth-generation daughter, Sonal Parikh released Dr. Javaid Rahi’s book ‘Mahatma Gandhi Gi Kahani-Tasweraan Gi Zabani’-a Gojri rendition of Sarla Manjumdar’s original Gujarati book ‘Chitarkatha’ at Kanoria Art Centre here today.
Organized by the Gandhi Chitarkhatha Privar, Gujarat, the event witnessed a gathering of prominent personalities including Gujarati writers, artists and intellectuals.
The presidium featured esteemed figures including Prof. Pankaj Joshi, renowned artists Anil Relia, Pranav Deesai, Tarak Oza and Bhushan Oza.
Speaking on the occasion Rahi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to a book series already available in 18 languages across India. He highlighted the journey he underwent while translating the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
Dr. Rahi, said as head of Gojri Language at J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, he supervised the translation of Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography into Gojri by Ch. Hassan Parwaz in 2010.
Sonal Parikh, in her presidential address, commended Dr. Rahi for his efforts in translating Gandhi Ji’s teachings for the Gujjar tribe, spanning across 12 States in India.
She also shared insights into the writings and paintings of Sarla Manjumdar (1911-2001), who resided at Sabarmati Ashram for an extended period, penning her experiences with the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.
