SRINAGAR, June 23: Minister for Revenue Javid Mustafa Mir along with Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary today inspected breach sites of River Jehlum at Padshahi Bagh, Baginder Lasjan,  Rakh Shalina and Tangan areas and took stock of the flood protection measures taken up by the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control for saving the area from any flood threat in future.
The Ministers directed the authorities of Irrigation and Flood Control for immediate dewatering of paddy fields at Padhshahi Bagh which have remained water logged since September, 2014. The department was also asked to cut trees planted by the people at the banks of River Jehlum and flood channel.
The Ministers directed the authorities to install a pump station for dewatering vegetable fields at Baginder, Lasjan besides issuing directions to the PHE Department to supply drinking water to the people of the area through tanker service immediately.
While taking stock of the de-silting work at Lasjan, the Ministers directed the authorities to press more men and machinery into service and ensure that the work is completed within the stipulated time frame. They also directed for immediate removal of encroachments in the area.
In view of acute shortage of drinking water in Rakh Shalina and Tangan, the Ministers directed the authorities to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for providing potable water to the people of the area and submit the same to the concerned quarter so that the funds could be arranged for the purpose.
