Jawan injured in firing

JAMMU, Dec 25: An Army jawan was seriously injured in a snipe fire from across the Line of Control (LoC) either by the Pakistan Army or the militants at Neelum Post in Mankote sector of Poonch district tonight.
Official reports said Sepoy Rakesh Kumar of 37 Rashtriya Rifles, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was hit by a sniper fire from across the LoC while manning his post at about 8 pm tonight. The jawan was seriously injured. His colleagues rushed to the spot and evacuated him to safety.
The injured jawan has been shifted to Rajouri hospital in serious condition.
The bullet had either been fired by the Pakistan Army or the militants but it was a targeted attack, the reports said, adding that no movement of infiltrators was spotted in the area after the firing. Army have cordoned off the area though they were already maintaining a very high alert on the LoC in view of anticipated infiltration attempts.
Reports said a Pakistan Army jawan or a militant might have come close to the LoC, targeted the jawan with sniper fire and fled back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) as it was not possible to hit the jawan directly from the Pakistani posts in the area.
Army would lodge a protest with Pakistan over hotline tomorrow.
