Jaya DA case: Hearing adjourned till Jan 5

BENGALURU, Jan 2:  The Special Court today adjourned to January 5 the hearing of the appeals filed by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalilthaa and three others in the Disproportionate Case.
Earlier, a Special Court had convicted Ms Jayalalithaa and three others to four years of jail. The four have challenged their conviction.
Karnataka High Court Chief Justice C H Whagela had set up a special bench of Justice C R Kumaraswamy to hear the appeals filed by Ms Jayalalithaa, her aide Sasikala, estranged foster son Sudhakaran and relative Ilavarasi.    The case came before Justice Billappa as Justice Kumaraswamy was on leave.
The setting up of special bench comes after the Supreme Court had earlier on December 18 directed Justice Whagela to constitute it to hear Ms Jayalalithaa’s appeal.    Ms Jayalalithaa and others are on bail issued by the Supreme  Court.
The trial court had held Ms Jayalalithaa and three others guilty of corruption. The court had also slapped a fine of Rs 100 crore on the AIADMK chief and Rs 10 crore on each of the other three convicts.
