JAMMU, Feb 23: Prominent social activist Jayesh Gupta has urged the Union Government to take urgent steps to deport illegal immigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh residing in Jammu and Kashmir, citing serious security concerns for the nation.
Addressing a press conference today, Gupta emphasized that the presence of these illegal immigrants poses a significant threat to national security, particularly in a sensitive region like Jammu and Kashmir. He called upon the Government to take immediate and decisive action, similar to the recent deportation efforts undertaken by the United States of America, which repatriated numerous illegal immigrants, including those of Indian origin.
“In the past few decades, a considerable number of illegal migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh have settled in various parts of Jammu division. The Government must identify these individuals and facilitate their immediate deportation. Any further delay could have serious consequences for the country’s safety and stability,” Gupta stated.
He also highlighted that such large-scale settlement of illegal immigrants could not have been possible without internal assistance. To address this issue, he demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to identify and take strict action against those responsible for facilitating the settlement of these foreigners.
Gupta further alleged that the rising number of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants in J&K has contributed to an increase in criminal activities, including theft and drug-related offences. Stressing the need for urgent action, he stated, “Ensuring the swift deportation of these illegal immigrants is crucial for maintaining law and order in the region.”
In addition, he called for stringent measures against individuals who provide housing to these migrants or assist them in unlawfully obtaining crucial documents such as Aadhaar cards. “Such activities must be curbed immediately to prevent further infiltration and illegal settlements,” he asserted.
