REASI, July 1: In a drive against illegal mining, District Police Reasi today seized a JCB and tipper at Talwara, which were being used for digging riverbeds and transportation of the minor minerals.
A team of Police Station Reasi, led by SHO Vijay Kumar, carried out a special drive and checking in the mines located in Sub Division Reasi, raided at Ganda Nallah Talwara and caught red handed the culprits who were engaged in illegal mining.
A JCB bearing Registration Number JK20A-3475, driven by Parshotam Singh of Sirla Reasi and a tipper bearing Registration Number JK20A-1301, driven by Sunil Kumar of Panassa, were seized on the spot.
It is pertinent to mention here that mining of minor minerals is banned from last six months but the mafia is extracting and stealing minerals illegally causing huge loss to the state exchequer. A case under relevant section has been registered in this connection.
