JAMMU, Apr 10: A delegation of Jammu Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce & Industry, called on the team of Union Home Secretary L C Goyal , Rajat Punhani, Joint Sectty MHA ( Incharge J&K ) and H K Makwaha, Joint Sectt Government of India, Incharge Border Management.
The deputation, comprising of Y V Sharma of Federation of Industries Jammu, chairman Rajesh Jain and president of BBIA Anil Suri, discussed various problems facing the LoC trade and presented a memorandum demanding the facilities for the further strengthening of the LoC trade.
They also demanded improvement of the communication network with both land and mobile telephony, extension of Banking facilities, ease of travelling both sides of LoC, revision of approved list of tradable items and inclusion of products manufactured by industrial units in the State, conducting meetings of the traders from both sides at zero point at regular intervals, installation full body truck scanners, revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and sending of the trade delegation to PoK for better interaction between the two sides for expansion of trade.
The deputation emphasized that the original idea of LoC trade was conceived for developing confidence building measures ( CBMs ) , easing the tensions and defreezing the estrangement on the two sides. Y V Sharma explained that LoC trade had already build an atmosphere for forward looking on both sides and the measures to strengthen this feeling were very imperative.
The delegation also demanded that stray happenings proving as road block on the LoC should not only be sternly dealt with but should be heavily punished.
The officers of the Central Government heard the representatives very patiently and assured that all possible steps would be taken to consolidate the LoC trade.
