JAMMU, Oct 3: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry has urged upon the Governor Satya Pal Malik to consider the genuine demand raised during the joint delegation meeting on September 19, 2019 regarding `One time tax’ on purchase of Motor vehicles and review the implementation of Motor Vehicles Act in J&K.
In a communication flashed to the Governor, the JCCI reminded that during a meeting with him (Governor) on September 19 at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar, the Governor had assured the joint delegation to consider all the genuine demands regarding “One time tax” on purchase of Motor Vehicles and review the implementation of Motor Vehicle Act in the State.
The traders and transporters are facing lot of crisis. It is requested the Governor to reconsider and decide on these two above mentioned issues at the earliest as the unilateral decision about high tax on purchase of Motor Vehicles from approximately 1.77% to 9% according to last year’s tax collection has not only shattered the Automobile Industry but is also threatening 10000 skilled jobs in the State. It is hoped that the Governor would understand the logic behind the demand.
“A logical decision in this regard is urgently awaited so that we could pass on the decision of the highest office in the State to one and all to end this State of confusion,” JCCI president Rakesh Gupta said.
