JCO killed, another injured in Pak firing in Kupwara

SRINAGAR: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed and another injured when Pakistani troops violated ceasefire, targeting forward posts at Line of Control (LoC) in frontier district of Kupwara on Friday afternoon, official sources said.

Pakistan troops resorted to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing with automatic weapons, including sniper rifle, targeting forward posts this afternoon. Two JCOs were hit by sniper rifle fire at Jumgund, the sources said, adding that Indian troops also retaliated.

Casualties suffered by Pakistan troops was not immediately known. The injured were rushed to local hospital where a 42-year-old JCO Subedar Gamar Thapa died. Later, another JCO Subedar Raman Thapa was referred to 92 Base hospital, Srinagar. (AGENCIES)
