JAMMU, May 29: Jammu Development Authority (JDA) has completed fencing of 270 kanal of land after its retrieval from the encroachers in Gole Gujral area of Jammu.
Reports said that after evicting encroachers from such a huge chunk of land the JDA has completely fenced the area and even put a gate in order to protect the land from encroachment attempts in future. “The process of retrieving the remaining land from the encroachers is going on and is likely to be completed in next some days”, reports further said.
Initially JDA faced resistance from the encroachers but following the orders of the Division Bench of State High Court and extension of required support by the district administration and police the anti-encroachment drive picked up pace. Vice-Chairperson of the JDA, Sushma Chauhan is regularly visiting the area to personally supervise the anti-encroachment drive.
Such a huge chunk of land was under encroachment during the past several years but nobody came forward to retrieve the land worth several crores of rupees and now the JDA is in a position to make better use of its land.
Meanwhile, the residents of Gole area have started questioning the justification of allowing encroachers to stay on 35 kanals of land and said, “such a practice will boost the morale of encroachers not only in Gole but other areas also as every time the encroachers will take the plea of temporary arrangement”.
“The law should be equal for everybody and no special treatment should be given to any section of the society”, they said.
