JAMMU, July 28: One time JDA Park, just behind Shakuntla complex and opposite Meridian Hotel in Jammu’s Old Rehari area, on nearly two kanal land piece, has virtually turned into idle parking place for goods carriers and buses.
Due to the attitude of neglect by the Government agency, some portion of this prime land has been grabbed by some people and a few Khokhas have also been raised there by the people with the alleged connivance of some insiders in the JDA.
This place has become the temporary vehicles stand for loading- unloading of goods being supplied to the old city area and some buses and mini-buses. The locals of this area said that this place has in fact become nuisance for them. Even during late night hours such activity goes on there.
They pointed out that once there was a park on this land and sitting benches had also established there. But with the passage of time and neglect on the part of concerned agency, the steel fencing and benches also went missing over decades. Now, some people have started claiming this land, situated just closer to office of Executive Engineer, Estates department at Old Rehari.
Mayor of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chander Mohan Gupta when contacted said that this land infact belonged to Jammu Development Authority. He said the JMC intended to set up a Sulabh Shauchalya and public dispensary at this place and also wrote to the Vice Chairman JDA for providing them the land but the response is yet awaited. He said a beautiful park can also be raised there.
VC JDA, Vikas Sharma, when contacted said he had no knowledge about the land and its misuse by some people. He said that he would get detail from the concerned field staff. If the land belonged to JDA it would be protected properly, he added.
