JDF organizes seminar on ‘Doctor-Patient Relationship’

JAMMU, July 15: Jammu Doctors Forum (JDF) organized a seminar/panel discussion on a burning topic “Doctor-Patient Relationship”, here today.
More than 100 medicos were present in this meeting. In addition, many dignitaries from different walks of life participated in the panel discussion. There was very informative interactive session.
Dr Dushyant Choudhary, general secretary of JDF, gave a brief introduction of the Forum. He stated that about 2 months back an onslaught on the prestige and honor of the medical fraternity following a tragic episode made the doctors of Jammu to realize the need for them to get united and come on one platform.
Dr Staya Dev Gupta, president JDF, in his presidential address, told that few years back doctors were considered as angels or demi- God but with the passage of time, political interference, biased media, setting up of corporate hospitals, commercial mottos and deteriorating human values spoiled this sacred relationship.
Dr Rajinder Singh, a senior orthopedic surgeon, said that less that less than 2% of GDP is spent on the health services and there is lot of pressure on the doctors working with severe infrastructure and manpower constraints. He stressed the need for formation of good national health policies in our country.
A panel discussion on this subject was conducted. The panelist included senior Advocate PK Jalali, Advocate Abhinav Sharma, Pardeep Dutta and Sohail Qazmi (Jouranlist), KB Jandyal, Prof Virender Gupta and Rakesh Gupta (from civil society), Ashok Gupta (retd IGP), Dr Sheetal Singh (Ex Principal, GMC Srinagar) and Dr Anayat Sheikh.
Former Health & Medical Education Ministers, Sham Lal Sharma, Bali Bhagat and Dr D K Manyal addressed the gathering and narrated the efforts made by them to develop and uplift the health & medical education services in the State.
Dr C L Gupta, senior most urologist while concluding this function appealed the civil society to come forward and make a sincere attempt to improve this Doctor-Patient trust deficit. He also warned that if this scenario continues as such it would lead to a chaos.
