NEW DELHI, Jan 1: Jeera prices fell by 0.65 per cent to Rs 14,930 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators trimmed their positions largely on reports of higher area under cultivation and subdued domestic demand.
However, some overseas enquiries capped the losses.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in May declined by Rs 97.50, or 0.65 per cent to Rs 14,930 per quintal with an open interest of 294 lots.
Likewise, the spice for delivery in March traded lower by Rs 30, or 0.20 per cent to Rs 14,642.50 per quintal in 14,661 lots.
Analysts attributed the fall in jeera prices in futures trade to higher area under cultivation and weak spot demand but some overseas enquiries restricted the loss.
Meanwhile, sowing of jeera, a winter-sown crop, is underway in the leading cultivating states. (PTI)
