NEW DELHI, June 20: Jeera prices jumped 1.40 per cent to Rs 17,020 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, driven by pick-up in demand from stockists and overseas enquiries.
Besides, tight stock positions following restricted arrivals from the growing regions fuelled the uptrend.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in far-month August contracts rose by Rs 235, or 1.40 per cent, to Rs 17,020 per quintal, with an open interest of 309 lots.
Likewise, contract for July month delivery was up by Rs 200, or 1.19 per cent, to Rs 16,900 per quintal, with open interest of 5,190 lots.
Traders said speculative positions built up by participants amid rising domestic as well as export demand led to the rise in jeera prices. (PTI)
