SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Police today busted an Over Ground Worker (OGW) module of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Awantipora area of South Kashmir and filed chargesheet against Lashkar-e-Toiba militants involved in the killing of Station House Officer and his escort while a protester was injured in Army firing in Kulgam district.
Police said that they busted a JeM module in Awantipora area of South Kashmir by arresting five OGWs.

Police said that on the basis of a specific input, Awantipora Police along with 110 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 50 RR arrested a former Pakistan trained militant, Sajad Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Mohammad Bhat of Hergam Wuyan and after questioning he disclosed that he along with other OGWs of the JeM outfit were involved in the grenade throwing incidents in Pampore and Khrew areas.
Police said that upon his disclosure four OGWs were arrested and arms and ammunition were recovered from them. They have been identified as Umar Gani Sheikh son of Abdul Gani Sheikh resident of Drangbal Pampore, Jan Mohammad Khanday alias Jehangir son of Abdul Rashid Khanday resident of Meech Pampore , Owais Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid of Danak Mohalla Khrew and Muzaffar Hussain Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad of Tulibagh Pampore.
Police said that the JeM which was earlier having strong basis in Tral had been dislodged from the area by conducting intelligence based operations in which some of the top commanders were eliminated and large number of hideouts were busted.
Police said that after continuous operations in Tral they shifted their focus in Khrew and Pampore belts. They said JeM commander Noor Mohammad Tantray alias Noor Trali, who was killed last year, was the key in creating this network of OGWs. “After his elimination, the OGWs were operating under the command/instructions of Mufti Waqas of Pakistan who replaced Noor Trali as commander of JeM in South Kashmir.
A Case (FIR NOs. 08/2018 U/Ss 18, 18B, 20, 39 ULA(P) act and 02/2018 U/Ss 307 RPC, 3/5 Exp. Sub Act) has been registered in Police Station Pampore and the investigation have been taken up.
A civilian was injured after the Army allegedly opened fire on protesters in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this morning.
The incident occurred after few youth pelted stones on an Army patrol in Hawoora-Mishpora village of Qoimoh in Kulgam. The injured youth, identified as Arif Lone, was hit by a bullet in his mouth.
Militants this evening attacked an Army camp with a grenade at Kakapora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Militants attacked the army’s 50 RR camp in Kakpora with a grenade at around 8.30 pm. In retaliation, Army fired several aerial rounds. However, there was no immediate report of any casualty so far. The area has been cordoned off and searches are being conducted to find out militants responsible for the attack.
And Police today filed a chargesheet against 4 militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba for the killing of Station House Officer (SHO) Achhabal and his five security guards.
They were involved in the attack on SHO Police Station Achhabal in June last year in which SHO and his five Escort personnel lost their lives.
The SIT headed by Tahir Ashraf Bhatti, Superintendent of Police, carried investigation under the close supervision of SSP Anantnag and DIGP SKR Anantnag.
During the course of investigation it was established that Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) headed by Bashir Lashkari were involved in the attack. On the basis of evidences collected during the course of investigation involvement of eight persons was established, of which two have been arrested.
The arrested include Sandeep Kumar son of Ramesh Kumar of Muzaffar Nagar (UP) and Mohammad Ashraf Wani alias Molvi son of Ghulam Nabi Wani of Branti Anantnag.
The two main accused Bashir Ahmad Wani alias Bashir Lashkari son of Ghulam Ahmad of Soaf Shali Kokernag and Abu Maz of Pakistan were killed.
The four others involved in the killings Khurshid Ahmad Ganie of Branti Dialgam, Mehraj- ud-din Bangroo of Narparistan Feteh Kadal Srinagar, Sahir Ahmad Makroo of Arwani Bijbehara and Zeenatull Islam Shah of Malnard Sugan Shopian are absconding.
