Jewellers continue indefinite strike for 23rd day

JAMMU, Mar 24: Jewellers continued their indefinite strike for the 23rd day in protest against the proposed one per cent excise duty on non-silver jewellery.
Large number of jewellers, swrankars and artisans assembled at Jain Bazaar and took out a rally, which passed from Link Road, Purani Mandi, City Chowk, Kanak Mandi, Lakhdata Bazar and culminated at Jain Bazar.
Raman Suri, Chairman, Sarafa Association and Swarnkar Sangh Joint Action Committee Jammu Province warned Union Minister Arun Jaitely of dire consequences if he failed to revoke the decision.
He further said that if Union Finance Minister will not roll back its decision, then BJP Government will face a major set back in the upcoming Assembly elections in five states as well as in the upcoming Local Bodies elections in J&K as jewellers across the country have decided to quit BJP.
He said that Prime Minister should interfere in the matter to safeguard his party as it is a matter of about 8 crores population of jewellers, swarnkars, karigars and artisans.
Parjan Kumar Jain, President Sarafa Association Jammu, Kulbhushan Anand, President Swarnkar Sangh Jammu District, Vijay Verma, General Secretary Sarafa Association Jammu, Ajay Vaid, general secretary Swarnkar Sangh Jammu District, besides many others also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Raj Kumar Babbar, All India Vice President Swarnkar Sangh and President Swarnkar Sangh, Jammu Province also took meeting with all the respective presidents, vice presidents and general secretaries of various districts and tehsils. He impressed upon the participants to remain united till the Government rolls back its decision.
