Jewellers continue protest, appeal Dr Jitendra, Azad to intervene

JAMMU, Mar 11: As the Central Government failed to revoke the decision of imposing one per cent excise duty on manufacturing and production of gold ornaments, the jewellers across the State continued their protest for the tenth consecutive day.
Large number of jewellers assembled at Jain Bazaar and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
The protestors alleged that the Government is adamant on its decision which is forcing the jewellers to take some harsh steps in the times to come because the decision of imposing one per cent excise duty on manufacturing and production of gold ornaments is grave injustice with the jewellers community.
Raman Suri, Chairman, Sarafa Association and Swarankar Sangh Joint Action Committee and Raj Kumar Babber, All India Vice President Swarnkar Sangh and President Swarnkar Sangh, Jammu Province while speaking appealed to MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh and leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad to intervene into the matter and provide relief to the jewelers community.
Meanwhile, the jewellers of district Reasi under the banner of Jewellers Association Reasi also staged protest. They assembled at Chowk Chabutra Reasi and marched towards DC Office Reasi where they submitted a memorandum to ADC Reasi.
JAR President Vijay Abrol said that the Central Government had been declaring from various platforms that the trading norms would be liberalised and made more trade friendly while the action of imposition of the excise duty is in contradiction to liberalisation.
The traders appealed the Union Finance Minister to re-consider his budget proposals and take a favourable decision towards jewelers community.
Meanwhile, the people across the State, who have marriage or some other celebrations, were also facing hardships due to closure of the jewellery shops. They have also urged the Union Government to take immediate decision and provide some relief to the people of the State in particular and country in general by resolving the issues of jewellers.
