Jharkhand cabinet nod to hike financial assistance for women to Rs 30,000 per year from Rs 12,000

RANCHI, Oct 14 : The Jharkhand cabinet on Monday gave its approval to increase the financial assistance given to women to Rs 30,000 per annum from Rs 12,000 at present.
The state government provides Rs 1,000 per month to women in the age group of 18-50 under the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana (JMMSY).
The decision comes barely a week after the ruling JMM submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission, seeking permission to implement JMMSY in the poll-bound state with the term of the present 81-member assembly coming to an end on January 5, 2025.
“The cabinet has approved a proposal to enhance the financial assistance to the beneficiaries of Maiyan Samman Yojna from Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month. This will be provided from December 2024 to 50 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme. The scheme will cause an additional burden of Rs 9,000 crore,” Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel said.
Chief Minister Soren said he does not believe in making announcements but in implementing schemes.
“The opposition will not be able to hatch their conspiracy this time,” he said.
The BJP has promised women of the state financial assistance of Rs 25,000 per year if it is voted to power, and has already distributed ‘application forms’ to provide the money on the 11th of every month.
On October 8, Rs 497 crore was transferred directly into the bank accounts of around 50 lakh women as part of the third instalment under the JMMSY.
“We submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission seeking its approval to implement our proposed JMMSY. The scheme cannot be implemented without permission from the commission as per a press note issued on May 2,” JMM had said last week.
Soren had launched the ambitious scheme on August 18, a day before Rakshabandhan by transferring the first instalment to the bank accounts of 81,000 beneficiaries of the Pakur district. (PTI)
