SRINAGAR : The flood situation in Kashmir has further worsened with Jhelum and its tributaries running an all time high at various places in the valley following incessant rains during the past four days.
According to Flood Control Room (FCR), the water level in the river Jhelum at Sangam on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir has crossed 35 feet, which is about 12 feet above danger mark. This is the highest water level of Jhelum recorded at Sangam.
Official sources said the water flow measuring gauge is now under water.
Meanwhile, the water level of the Jhelum at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar is no different as it has crossed 22.4 feet, which is 5 feet above danger mark.
Official sources said due to a breach in the Jhelum at Kandizal in central Kashmir district of Budgam, which affected over 70,000 people in the area, the water level at Ram Munshi Bagh is yet to cross the all time high of 22.6 feet. Meanwhile, Jhelum at Asham in north Kashmir has crossed 15 feet, which is 8 feet below danger mark, which is 4 feet above danger mark.
Incessant rain over the past three days has wreaked havoc in many parts of Kashmir valley, while the most affected districts are Kulgam, Baramulla, Shopian and Anantnag. They said all nallahs including Lidder, Veshav, Rambiara, Feroz, flowing above danger mark, has affected over 70 villages along their banks in the valley.
