JAMMU, Mar 21: In a shocking incident, a youth attempted suicide today by jumping into a well before setting a fire a woman in Bishnah area of city outskirts.
The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Indu Bala wife of Rakesh Singh, resident of Khour (Akhnoor). As per sources, before marriage, the woman had affair with the accused namely Vicky Kumar son of Desh Raj, resident of Chak Jalala.
The woman had come to her parents’ home at Kothe Morh in Bishnah area and was going to nearby market when her alleged jilted lover intercepted her and after heated exchanges between the two, the accused sprinkled petrol on the woman, set her on fire and thereafter, tried to commit suicide by jumping into a well in the area.
In the incident, the woman received about 70 % burn injuries and was rushed to sub District Hospital, Bishnah, from where she was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
Meanwhile, Bishnah Police came into action and after evicting the accused from the well, shifted him to Sub District Hospital, Bishnah for first-aid. In this connection, awas registered at police Station Bishnah and the accused arrested.
