Ganderbal, Feb 9 : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said to have arrested 12 persons and seized counterfeit currency of Rs 1,500,000 and genuine Indian currency of Rs 56,000.
Police officials said that the Kangan Police Station acted upon credible information received regarding suspicious activity in Kijpara, situated behind the Dumping Park.
“Under the direction of SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, a specialized police team, led by SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan and supervised by SHO Kangan Turk Zahoor, swiftly moved in,” police said.
“The diligence of the police led to the apprehension of 12 individuals engaged in dubious conduct at the targeted location. Upon thorough search of both the suspects and the vehicles believed to be linked to the illicit activities, law enforcement uncovered and confiscated a significant amount of counterfeit currency. The seized cache comprised 30 bundles, each containing Rs 50,000 of counterfeit notes from “Children Bank,” totaling Rs 1,500,000, alongside Rs 56,600 in genuine Indian currency,” police said.
Furthermore, five vehicles suspected to have been used in facilitating the criminal operation were impounded, bearing registration numbers JK15-4533 (Alto-K10), JK18B-2652 (Baleno), JK18D-3543 (Alto-K10), JK01AU-5420 (I-20), and PB01A-9585 (Etios), police added.
The individuals apprehended in connection with the incident were identified as Riyaz Ahmad Mir, Ghulam Nabi Malik, Arshid Ahmad Wani, Mohd Zubair, Zahoor Ahmad Salro, Abaas Ahmad Sofi, Bilal Ahmad Sofi, Faroze Ahmad Thokar, Raja Rameez, Ishfaq Ahmad Wani, Zubair Ahmad Bijran, and Khurshid Ahmad Mir.
Subsequent to the operation, police said that a case under FIR number 08/2024 was lodged at PS Kangan and ongoing investigations are underway to unravel further details. (KNO)
