* Inaugurates first edition of Jammu Trade Fair

JAMMU, Jan 31: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today inaugurated the 1st edition of Jammu Trade Fair 2024 at Gen. Zorawar Singh Auditorium Ground, University of Jammu here.
The Trade Fair, organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) from January 31st to February 4th, 2024, provides a captivating display of the Union Territory’s rich culture and untapped trade potential.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Advisor Bhatnagar highlighted the distinctiveness and quality of every product originating from J&K, emphasizing that the region offers opportunities for growth, development and success. He expressed Jammu Trade Fair 2024 marks a significant milestone for J&K, where the Government is extending comprehensive support to farmers, manufacturers and artisans.
Delving on the significance of One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, Advisor Bhatnagar noted that nearly 17 products have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, with others in the pipeline. He likened J&K to a sunrise region brimming with opportunities in every sector.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Vikramjit Singh stated that recognizing the true potential of JKTPO, could foster an environment for business that actively supports trade and exports to help J&K flourish and prosper economically.
Managing Director of JKTPO, Khalid Jahangir gave out that JKTPO is mandated to organize such events for the promotion of unique products of J&K.
Driven by the vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,’ the Jammu Trade Fair 2024 aims to showcase the diverse economic and cultural facets of J&K. The Fair is set to become an annual fixture on fixed dates, creating a consistent platform for businesses and investors, and provide a unique identity to Jammu city.
Notably, the fair is being organized on revenue generation model with least relevance on Government budgeting support, thus being first of its kind and a trail blazing event. Further, the event has received official approval from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, further validating its significance as a key platform for fostering economic growth and cultural exchange in the region.
More than 110 stalls are established in the fair spanning across Handloom & Handicrafts, Horticulture, Agriculture, Fashion & Accessories, Travel and Tourism, Building Materials, Furniture, Interiors & Home Decor, and more. Various manufacturers and artisans are also part of this exhibition, collectively highlighting the rich cultural and industrial tapestry of the region.
Artisans also showcased the cultural tapestry of Jammu & Kashmir at the Jammu Trade Fair 2024, enchanting and featuring soulful melodies that echoed the spirit of the region. From the rhythmic charm of traditional Dogri and Kashmiri dance performances to other indigenous art forms, the event became a celebration of the diverse cultural heritage.
The Jammu Trade Fair 2024 gathered sponsorship from key organizations, enhancing its significance in the business landscape. Sponsored stalls and exhibitors feature esteemed entities including SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India), NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), DCH (Development Commissioner Handicrafts), and TPCI (Trade Promotion Council of India). The event’s power is fuelled by industry giants such as JSW (Jindal Steel Works), Varun Beverages, the global e-commerce giant Amazon, and Karcher, collectively contributing to the success and vibrancy of the trade fair.
