JAMMU, Mar 10: Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Additional General Secretary of National Conference today alleged that the J&K administration was allegedly pursuing anti-poor policies and callously ignoring the interests of other backward class population.
“The headway made with regard to empowerment of weaker sections during National Conference led Governments has been undone,” he said while addressing at a Working Committee OBC Cell of the party, here today at Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu. The meeting was organized by Abdul Gani Teli, Chairman OBC Cell.
Mustafa Kamaal recalled the contribution of Sher-e- Kashmir Sheikh Mohd Abdullah towards upliftment and welfare of OBC segment and said that literacy and socio-economic emancipation got impetus during his tenure and the successive NC Governments.
Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Secretary Jammu Province, recalled that during the NC regime, the OBC Development Board was constituted with the Chief Minister being the Chairman. He asserted that this Board was specially constituted with the sole aim of addressing the issues of OBC people from time to time to ensure their upliftment. Moreover this community was granted 4 percent reservation to pave the way for the equitable welfare of these people as an effort to bring them at par with the already uplifted and prosperous sections of the society, he added.
Abdul Gani Teli, Chairman OBC Cell, accused the incumbent J&K regime of totally ignoring the people belonging to OBCs and demanded the enhancement of the reservation quota for the members of this backward community. He also demanded that 27 percent reservation as per the Mandal Commission should be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir and one time certificate be issues to OBC community.
On this occasion, a large number of workers joined the National Conference.
