JAMMU : BJP legislator Kavinder Gupta was elected as the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, soon after the Mufti Mohammad led PDP-BJP Government’s first Budget session commenced here today.
All the ministers and members comprising Opposition National Conference and Congress attended the first-day session. Meanwhile, members also participated in the election process to elect new Speaker of the J&K Assembly. Mr Gupta was elected unopposed as the new Speaker amid the presence of Pro-tem Speaker Mohammad Shafi Uri. Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra will later address the joint session of the House.
