SRINAGAR, July 26: Gardeners who were working in the gardens and parks managed by the J&K Bank today staged a protest against the bank for terminating their services.
Scores of these gardeners appeared in the Press Enclave and were seen raising slogans seeking reinstatement and intervention by the LG-led Administration.
The gardeners have been protesting for the last more than a month seeking the attention of the LG’s Administration as well as the bank officials.
One of the gardeners, Abdul Rahim Sofi of Batamaloo said that he along with others are facing immense financial troubles and their families are suffering.
“We have given over 20 years of our lives to these parks, but the bank did not think of us even for a second before terminating by simply telling us that our services are no longer required,” he said.
He said they have been trying to reach out to the bank higher-ups, but to no avail. “We have been compelled to come here as there appears to be no one paying any heed to our woes,” he said.
The protesting gardeners said that their termination cannot be justified in any possible way and that there is a need for the authorities to look into the matter so that their services are restored.
“We appeal to the LG’s administration to ensure justice is done in this matter and we are now shown the door after 20 long years of service,” they said.
