J&K Cong leaders meet Rahul, seek help for quake victims

NEW DELHI, Sept 18:  A delegation of J&K Congress leaders led by former Minister and MLA Inderwal ( Kishtwar), Ghulam Mohd Saroori met the AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi here today and demanded financial assistance for the earthquake victims of Doda area and construction of  Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel.
Assisted by former MLA Ashok Sharma, PCC general secretary Vinod Sharma, DCC president Jammu Darshan Raina and PCC secretary Narinder Sharma, the J&K delegation apprised  Rahul Gandhi of the situation in the State  and also conveyed the difficulties being faced  by the Congress activists and discussed issues pertaining to Jammu region.
The Congress delegation also presented a memorandum to Rahul Gandhi and said that party has gone weak in Valley while it still has strong base in Jammu region. Despite this the Jammu region is not getting its due share.  They demanded that Doda and Kishtwar  earthquake victims have been treated shabbily by the Government and were not provided any assistance. They pointed out that nearly 90% houses have been damaged in the earthquake and many of them have been turned  unsafe. Saroori stressed for Singhpora-Vailoo tunnel and said that funds be made available for the same.  He said Doda-Kishtwar will be connected directly throughout the year by constructing this tunnel.
The delegation also strongly advocated for incorporating provisions of 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments in J&K  and holding of early elections of Block Development Councils and Urban Local Bodies. They also demanded that work on Jammu- Kalakote-Poonch railway line be taken up at the earliest.
