J&K covers over 1 lakh children, 17,000 women under IMI 5.0

SRINAGAR, Oct 21: In an achievement under the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 5.0-which has now reached its conclusion-the Union Territory of J&K has successfully vaccinated more than 100,000 children aged 0-5 and over 17,000 pregnant women who were either due for vaccinations or had missed previous doses.
According to the Directorate of Family Welfare MCH & Immunization J&K, a total of 102,169 children in the 0-5 age group received vaccinations in three comprehensive rounds conducted across J&K, beginning in August.
Simultaneously, 17,449 pregnant women were included in this vital vaccination campaign with 13,081 vaccination sessions organized during these rounds across the UT.
The data reveals that during the first round of IMI 5.0, 32,822 children were covered, encompassing those due for vaccine shots or those who had previously missed them.
In the second round, 34,058 such children received vaccinations, and in the third round, 35,289 children were successfully vaccinated, taking the total to 102,169 children who benefited during the intensified immunization campaign.
Similarly, the figures for pregnant women indicate that 5,094 were vaccinated during the first round, 6,146 during the second round in September, and 6,209 women were covered in the final round of IMI 5.0 from October 9 to 14, bringing the total to 17,449 pregnant women who were vaccinated.
It is to be noted here that the IMI 5.0 campaign was organized into three distinct rounds, commencing in August and concluding in October, as part of a nationwide effort to expand immunization coverage.
In J&K, immunization rounds started in August, with the first round taking place from August 7 to 12, followed by the second round in September from the 11th to the 16th, and the third round in October from the 9th to the 14th.
Regarding the session sites established during the campaign, the number state, 4,898 session sites were arranged during the first round, 4,135 in the second round, and 4,048 in the third round. This effort spanned 13,081 session sites across J&K, including those in hard-to-reach areas.
Post culmination of the immunization rounds, the officials expressed their satisfaction with the successful accomplishment of the IMI 5.0 targets. Dr. Tabasum Jabeen, Director of Family Welfare MCH & Immunization in J&K, commented, “We have met our set targets. Our goal was to reach 100,000 children, and we have surpassed that target. We achieved nearly 88% coverage in the first round, 92% in the second round, and a remarkable 100% in the third round.”
