JAMMU, Apr 25: Minister for Youth Services and Sports said that in the coming three years they are going to frame State team, which will participate in the highly popular Indian Premier League (IPL).
Chib said that Jammu Premier League (JPL) and Kashmir Premier League (KPL) events are the endless efforts put in by the Government to harness the budding talent in the game of cricket in the State, polishing them and providing them larger canvass at the national and international levels.
Chib added that the State’s Youth Services and Sports Department and Sports Council will seek all possible assistance from BCCI to frame the State cricket team, which will participate in the IPL and hoped that best of the facilities will be made available to the budding cricketers.
Recognizing the role of Army in holding the Kashmir and Jammu T20 Premier Leagues, Chib stated that without their help it would not have been possible to organise the tournament in the State.
“In the coming time, JPL and KPL will be merged making it a single and regular feature of the year and will be played under one name–Jammu Kashmir Premier League (JKPL)”, Chib maintained.
Chib further stated that the finals of the ongoing Jammu Premier League (JPL) will be played at MA stadium between Jammu Riders and Jammu Janbaz on April 27 in which Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, will be the chief guest.
He added that this cricketing extravaganza, in which 16 teams drawn from JPL Phase-1 participated, is being organized by Army under Operation Sadhbhavana in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
“The outstanding cricketers emerging in these events would be deputed for specialized coaching at the country’s premier institutes like MRF Face Academy, Chennai and National Cricket Academy of BCCI”, Chib disclosed.
He also informed that the winning team will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh while the runner up team will get Rs 3 lakh. The man of the match and man of the series will get Rs 1 lakh each.
He added that necessary arrangements like seating, barricading, transportation, medicare, power, etc were finalised and concerned departments directed to ensure all services.
Responding to the queries, Chib said that Jammu Premier League (JPL) or Kashmir Premier League (KPL) are not the copies of IPL as these are State names.
Accepting the lack of sports infrastructure in the State, Chib said that the coalition Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is working day and night for upliftment of the same and in the coming years, there will be surely full fledges sports infrastructure in the State.
To another query, he said Sher-e-Kashmir Award ceremony which was scheduled to be held on December 5, was delayed due to the lack of time and the said award will be presented to the beneficiaries at the earliest.
