KATHUA, Aug 21: One day convention of J&K Ex-servicemen League was held here, today to highlight their burning issues.
J&K president of the League, Lt Gen (retd), Rakesh Sharma was chief guest and district president Maj (retd) Anchal Singh and other dignitaries were present. A large number of Ex-servicemen, war widows and their family members were present. They highlighted the various problems being faced by them and their long pending issues and demanded to resolve them at the earliest. They appealed the LG of UT to take into consideration the burning issues as numbers of women are war widows whose husbands scarified their lives while fighting militancy and enemy on borders.
The J&K Ex-servicemen League president Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar Sharma demanded the equal rights and equal benefits for martyrs and their families at par with other parts of India and removal of the disparities by J&K Government which persist despite the abrogation of Article 370 while all other rules have been implemented in the UT which are in applicable in other parts of country.
They demanded renewal of arms license of Ex-servicemen, revival and functioning of Sainik Ghee Factory ,Bari Brahamana, solve the pending cases of land allotment in Sainik Colony Jammu. He said that more than 23000 Ex-servicemen are active members of the League. He said that J&K Government has only 6 percent quota for Ex-servicemen and Punjab has 13% and Himachal Pradesh has 15% . The compensation is given to martyrs families is very low amount as compare to other states, he added.
“When we are in one nation after 2019 abrogation of Article 370, then why these disparities are still alive in J&K. As compare to other states, the Army personnel of J&K are working in hard situation,. But in case of our rights we are far behind from other states”, he added.
He asked the Government to take early consideration of their grievances.
