JAMMU, July 1: J&K Ex-Services League today held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) during which many long pending demands of the ex-servicemen were highlighted.
The veterans from all the three regions participated in the meeting and unanimously passed a resolution at Head Office Zila Sainik Welfare Office Jammu that all the pending issues must be taken up like disparities in recruitments in Government departments, particularly in the Secretariat, Education Department and Public Service Commission.
They also stressed for taking up of 4 laning of Jammu-Akhnoor road and other projects like Jammu Tawi Artificial Lake, Jammu Rope Way, Jammu Bypass, AIMS and IITs. They further conveyed their resentment on the delay in establishing Sainik Colony in Kashmir, land acquisition for Fauji colonies in Jammu, revival of Sainik Vanaspati Cooperative. They also asserted to revise the annuities like Param Vir Chakra.
The district presidents of the League raised their specific problems which were discussed threadbare during the meeting. Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal assured them for taking up all their demands like mobile canteens in different areas, providing Zila Sainik Boards in each district and extending ECHS facilities to difficult areas, with the Defence, State and other concerned authorities.
In one voice the veterans demanded exemption of license fees as they were exempted earlier on, stating that with these weapons they can protect the villagers also where they live. They demanded some facilities for the ex-servicemen visiting Ramban from the interior like the Sainik Sarai. They also requested that the Ex-Servicemen and their wards may be given preference in employment in different establishments like Ordinance/ASC, etc.
Earlier, during the meeting, Maj Gen (Retd.) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, was re-elected as president of the League while Air Commodore Kamal Singh was elected as senior vice-president and Lt Col DS Slaria as treasurer.
