J&K floods: Omar for redoubling ration supply to Valley

JAMMU :  Asserting that restoration of essential services and public utilities on war-footing forms the priority of government in present scenario, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said focus is on timely and adequate supply of relief to the people in distress.    Speaking at a meeting held to review the ongoing relief and restoration works at Srinagar last evening, the Chief Minister has asked the concerned departments to redouble their efforts and ensure relief is provided to the people.    On restoration of power infrastructure, Mr Abdullah said 85 per cent power supply has been restored in Jammu region while 60 per cent power supply in Kashmir division has been restored so far.
He assured that cent per cent power supply will be restored across Jammu division within 15 days.    He also took comprehensive review of the restoration works undertaken by the line departments to restore the vital services in the state.
It was informed that CAPD has distributed 50 trucks of ration in Srinagar today and were directed by the Chief Minister to double the supply by roping in vehicles from SRTC.
He also emphasised on ensuring that the ration reaches the residents of house boats.
Chief Minister has directed Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to mobilise men and machinery to revamp the efforts to launch a full-fledged cleanliness drive and asked to ensure stocks of chorine tablets and said, ‘other water treatment measures should reach people in adequate quantity to put a check on water borne diseases.’     He said state government will extend all help to check spread of diseases while the Public Health Engineering (PHE) has been asked to fast track the de watering process and press more pumps into service.
A facebook link has also been established to trace and connect the missing people.
Earlier, the Chief Minister during his visit to South Kashmir  reviewed the road network at Sinthan Top, which is presently being utilitised to ferry essential commodities and supplies for valley.
He also assessed the progress of relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas of South Kashmir.     Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Bank informed the chair that almost 147 out of 300 branches are working and efforts have been redoubled to make other branches functional.     He said branches of state bank at Rajbagh, Humhama, Rawalpora, Sanatnagar are working. Chief Minister has also instructed to provide mobile banking facilities to the people and fast track operationalisation of banks.
