J&K Govt Forms Committee To Resolve Land Issue For Relocation Of GMC Handwara

JAMMU, Dec 16: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has formed a high-level committee to address the land relocation issue for Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara and its Nursing College under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).
Chaired by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, the committee as per an order issued by Government, comprises senior officials from various departments, including the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Principal of GMC Handwara, Chief Engineers from Public Works (R&B) and Irrigation and Flood Control, and representatives from Agriculture, SKUAST-Kashmir, and other stakeholders.
The committee according to an order will assess the feasibility of sites identified by the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, focusing on critical factors such as safety parameters, soil condition, flood risks, and infrastructure availability, including water, road connectivity, and power supply.
It will also ensure the land is encumbrance-free, meets the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) requirement of at least 200 kanals, and has provisions for future expansion.
The panel has been directed to secure all necessary clearances and submit a comprehensive report with specific recommendations within 15 days.
