JAMMU, Sept 8: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today asked the Jammu and Kashmir Government to follow the lines of Punjab Government to check spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and boost vaccination efforts especially in hilly districts so as to check morality and control further spread of infection.
Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader T S Tony said that the rise in the number of cases of LSD in animals is not only affecting animal health but is also affecting the business of dairy farming as people are fearing from consuming animal milk.
“There is an increase in LSD cases and the Government should be concerned about the situation before there is a massive outbreak of disease among the animals,” said Tony and added that main efforts should be to check mortality rate so that farmers and animal owners don’t sit out losses.
He further demanded that Government should follow multi dimensional approach in which focus should be laid on boosting vaccination drive especially to use LSD specific vaccine and also to make people aware about all medical aspects related to LSD so that business of dairy farming is not affected as the infection is not zoonotic in nature.
Tony further asked J&K Government to follow aggressive policy of Punjab Government in checking the outbreak of infection so that farmers are saved from heavy losses. The Government should also work on a policy to aid farmers whose animals died due to LSD so that their losses get overcome, he asserted.
