JAMMU:The State High Court today issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Power Development Department over power curtailment in Jammu.
A Division Bench of J&K High Court comprising Justices A M Magrey and B S Walia issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner, PDD in a PIL filed by Citizen Forum against the power curtailments in Jammu.
The advocates submitted before the court that a project of laying power cables has been initiated by the PDD Department and for the implementation of this project there is requirement of 8-12 hours of power cuts daily for minimum one month in one area.
The Counsels further submitted that the work is vigorously going on in Jammu region as a result of which power cuts of more than 8-12 hours are taking place that too when the summer season is at its peak level and people are facing great hardships because of the scorching heat.
They further argued that these power cuts are adding to the miseries of people as the temperature has gone high and it has become impossible to live without electricity.
Despite the fact that people of Jammu are having power meters installed in their houses and are regularly making payments, they have been put to harassment by the department, they said.
The Division Bench however, issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner PDD and put up the matter for consideration on June 3. (AGENCIES)
