KATHUA, Apr 2: Senior Congress leader and the party candidate from Udhampur parliamentary constituency Vikramaditya today said that J&K is presently with India only due to his family and Congress leaders like Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Vikramaditya said this while addressing a series of public meetings in Hiranagar area. Recalling his family’s association with the people of the State in general and Hiranagar area in particular, Vikramaditya said, “We have been born here, brought up here, have served here for generations and glorified the Dogra identity in the world history”.
He appealed the people to judge for themselves as whose contribution was greater; whether that of the Congress or the BJP. “Congress fought for the freedom of the country and it was the Congress Government in association with my grandfather Maharaja Hari Singh that ensured that the State became part of the Indian Union”, he pointed out, while adding, had it not been for his family and the Congress leaders like Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, the State would never have been with India.
Referring to sitting MP Jitendra Singh’s non-performance, Vikramaditya urged people to question him about his achievements. “When he comes to you again for your vote, ask him what he actually has done for you despite holding an all important portfolio in the Prime Minister’s Office?” he urged people while exhorting them to hold Jitendra Singh accountable and answerable.
He said that the disinformation about fake development spread by BJP IT Cell on social media sites has no takers and the reality is that BJP candidate of the constituency, who also happens to be the Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, is more concerned about North East than Udhampur-Kathua Lok Sabha Constituency.
Taking a jibe at Jitendra Singh who questions Congress’ contribution in the development process of the country, Vikramaditya said that it was Congress party’s hard toiled and visionary efforts that Prime Minister Narendra Modi started inaugurating (cutting the red ribbons) development projects including chugging off train to Katra in J&K and umpteen others within a ‘fortnight’ of assuming the charge.
