JAMMU, Oct 26: J&K Jatt Sabha members celebrated granting of OBC status to the Jatt community of Jammu and Kashmir at Sabha’s office in RS Pura.
Led by President, J&K Jatt Sabha, Manjit Singh, the members of Jatt community, prominent citizens and members of civil society gathered at RS Pura office to celebrate their victory with regard to the years’ long pending demand of OBC status.
Among those who were present to mark the celebration include Senior Vice President J&K Jatt Sabha and Former Minister, Sukhnandan Choudhary, Former Cabinet Minister, Sham Choudhary, Ex MP Tarlok Singh Bajwa, Former Minister Garu Choudhary, J&K Jatt Sabha, General Secretary, Former MLC Surinder Choudhary, Vice President J&K Jatt Sabha, Vikram Randhawa, Vice President J&K Jatt Sabha, Partap Choudhary, Vice President J&K Jatt Sabha, DDC Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony, DDC member Geetu Alokh, District President of J&K Jatt Sabha and Corporator Dwarka Choudhary, Corporator Gurmeet Kour Randhawa, Kamal Choudhary, Corporator Surinder Choudhary, Kamal Randhawa, PRIs, prominent people and civil society members.
“We have got OBC status due to the struggle of our elders and seniors who had first raised their voice”, Manjit Singh said and further demanded 27 percent OBC reservation in J&K at par with rest of the States in the country.
“For now, the OBCs have been included in the Other Social Castes (OSC) in J&K. However, we shall be treated in OBC, not in the OSCs in the Union Territory. Therefore, we need amendment in the recommendations so that Jatts can be included in the OBC, but not in the Other Social Castes”, he added.
The J&K Jatt Sabha welcomed the decision of Justice GD Sharma and Government of India for granting OBC status to the Jatt community of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, J&K Jatt Sabha has appointed Bachan Lal Choudhary as District President of Samba, J&K Jatt Sabha.
