JAMMU, Oct 5: All Jammu and Kashmir Jatt Sabha today staged a protest in front of Divisional Commissioner office here against retrieving of land by the Police and Revenue Department.
Led by J&K President Jatt Sabha, and former Minister, Manjit Singh, the protesters including Senior Vice President Taranjit Singh Tony (DDC member) and Vice President Vikram Randhawa assembled outside the Divisional Commissioner’s office here.
The protest was organised against the forcible retrieval of land which is allotted to Jatt community in Akkal area of Jammu District and court has also ordered status-quo yet the revenue and police are trying to gain control over the land in possession of Jatts.
“The displaced people especially Jatt were allotted land by then Governments and many people are dependent upon the land for their survival which is being occupied by the Revenue Department using police force at Akkal,” said former Minister, Manjit Singh.
“We will oppose any such move which is being repeated by the Revenue Department on the behest of powerful land mafia,” he said.
Senior Vice President, Taranjit Singh Tony who is also a DDC member, said that the Revenue Department is manipulating records by showing people that the land which is in their possession does not belong to them quoting the revenue records which is a wrong presentation of facts to suit their motive.
Tony further said that the harassment of people will not be tolerated and they will intensify their agitation if such things are not stopped.
Meanwhile, Vice President, and Ex-MLC Vikram Randhawa said that the nexus between revenue officials and police should be exposed.
Later, Assistant Commissioner in Divisional Commissioner, Jammu met the protesting Jatt leaders and assured them that the people will not be harassed unnecessarily.
