JAMMU, Sept 17: In a bid to promote cleanliness and sanitation, Charandeep Singh, Director of Rural Sanitation, Jammu & Kashmir, unveiled the Indian Swachhata League 2.0 (ISL 2.0) here today.
The Director also announced commencement of the ‘Swachhata Karwaan 2.0’ from Panchayat Kalyanpur (Jhiri), Block Marh, District Jammu.
He actively participated in a solid waste cleanup at the Tourist Park near Baba Jitto Dev Sthan Jhiri, marking the initiation of the “Swachh Yodha Pratiyogita” (Cleanliness Warrior Competition).
This initiative, pioneered by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, J&K, aims to engage and motivate individuals, especially in rural areas, to actively partake in the ongoing cleanliness drive.
Around 500 participants, including students, athletes, PRIs, local community members, officials, and shopkeepers, collaborated to collect over one ton of garbage during this two-hour sanitation drive.
The ‘Swachh Yodha Pratiyogita’ recognizes and celebrates the contributions of individuals and teams dedicated to maintaining sanitation and hygiene standards within their communities.
Following the flag-off ceremony, sanitation drives were simultaneously launched in all J&K districts, engaging thousands of residents in cleaning public spaces.
Director Charandeep Singh emphasized the importance of community-driven efforts in realizing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s objectives, stating, “Cleanliness is not just a Government initiative; it is a collective responsibility of every citizen. The ‘Swachh Yodha Pratiyogita’ celebrates those who have taken it upon themselves to be change-makers in their villages and towns.”
He further highlighted that this competition is expected to encourage active participation in sanitation initiatives and instil pride and responsibility among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The competition was organized as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, a fortnight-long nationwide sanitation drive. A panel of officials evaluated garbage collection based on quantity and recognized the winning team.
The event also featured sports activities, with prizes and certificates awarded to individuals showcasing exceptional skills.
