JAMMU, Feb.6: On the directions of National president Mahila Congress Alka Lamba, the Jammu and Kashmir Mahila Congress led by Shameema Raina launched Nari Nyay campaign at party headquarters here today.
JKPCC president, Vikar Rasool Wani, general secretary (Org) Narinder Gupta, senior vice president JK Mahila Congress Bhanu Mahajan, vice president Santosh Manhas, general secretaries Shilpa Gupta and Parveen Akhtar besides others were also present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, Shameema Raina said that party leader Rahul Gandhi is presently on Bharat Jodo Nyaye Yatra where he is meeting scores of people from all backgrounds. All India Mahila Congress activists are constantly reaching out to the women to hear their issues and views. In J&K also the process is continued. Various suggestions have been received from the women for their empowerment and welfare.
She said the major demands projected by the women included- economic and political empowerment of the women, equal pay for equal work, setting up of healthcare/ primary delivery centers for women, free education with major thrust on technical education, sanitation/ toilet facilities at public places, protection against violence and speedy justice and maintaining dignity of women and if needed laws be enacted for the same.
Raina said these points and issues raised by the women will be taken care of, if the Congress Government comes to power. The Mahila Congress would continue to project these demands/ issues before the concerned authorities and present Government/UT administration, she added.
