J&K nominates Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo as Ambassador for ‘War Against Waste’ initiative

JAMMU, Aug 9: In a significant move to address the pressing sanitation challenges in the rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has announced the nomination of Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo as the ambassador for the ‘War Against Waste’ initiative. Handoo is also the National Chief Coach of India for Wushu, and a celebrated brand ambassador for the Fit India Movement.
This was announced by the Director General Rural Sanitation, Anoo Malhotra on Friday at the Government Higher Secondary School, Surinsar in presence of Deputy Director Rural Sanitation, Jammu Sanna Khan, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Jammu Shahzada Noor Ul Ain; BDO Nagrota Anjana Sood during Swachhata Pakhwada program.
Handoo will spearhead efforts to promote sustainable waste management practices across the Union Territory.
The ‘War Against Waste’ initiative is a key component of the Swachh Bharat Mission- Grameen to transform J&K into a model of rural cleanliness and sustainable development. Handoo’s involvement as the ambassador is expected to inspire communities to adopt responsible waste disposal habits, with a strong focus on segregation, recycling, and reducing landfill waste.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General emphasized the importance of involving influential personalities like Handoo in such campaigns. “Kuldeep Handoo’s association with the ‘War Against Waste’ initiative will significantly bolster our efforts to raise awareness and engage the rural population in our sanitation mission. His commitment to fitness and well-being resonates with the objectives of our campaign, which aims to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all.”
Handoo expressed his enthusiasm about the role, stating, “I am honored to be a part of the ‘War Against Waste’ initiative.
During the day long event, students and locals participated in Swachhata rally, Swachhata Pledge, performed Nukkad Natak to spread awareness about the broader goals of SBM-G.
