JK producers for withdrawal of guidelines, seek LG’s intervention

JAMMU, Sept 30: The producers of J&K have expressed serious concern over their plight.
In a letter to Lt Governor of J&K today they took serious exception to Department of information and public relations (DIPR) recent guidelines inviting applications for empanelment of production houses to produce films, ad- films, documentaries, Docu-dramas, etc, for various departments of J&K.
Despite having bundles of experience, the guidelines have been framed in such a way that the producers of J&K have hardly any chance to get empanelled and serve the society by producing effective programmes, the letter said.
It said even after being well versed with composite culture, socio-political status and geography of JK, the guidelines do not accommodate the production houses of UT as a result of which we feel discriminated. For DIPR, the lifetime experience in the field has no value but the technical knowhow of last three years is of great value to it.
Knowing it very well that the producers of UT have not been allotted any work by Doordarshan or any other organisation for the last 14 years, the JKDIPR has asked for last three year experience with a sole motive to keep away them from the competition.
Contrary to the promises made by JKDIPR in virtual meeting with producers of J&K., the Department instead of giving some concessions has practically further complicated the matter in revised guidelines.
In virtual meeting with producers JKDIPR had assured of modifying the guidelines in favour of UT producers but instead of simplifying: the Department complicated the same and virtually closed all doors for J&K producers permanently in revised guidelines.
It said ironically enough, even the Doordarshan empanelled producers and those having degree/diploma in journalism, Mass communication have been kept at bay in new guidelines which clearly indicates that the Department is hell bent to prefer outsiders and put the future of J&K producers in dark.
The letter demanded special concessions for J&K producers and withdrawal of guidelines so that they get aligned share as they are the ones who are well acquainted to diverse culture, socio-political-economic status and geography of J&K with a view to bring to fore the real picture of society for its betterment.
The guidelines aren’t less than a severe jolt for J&K production houses as these do not even accommodate 1% of producers despite having enormous potential to earn accolades not only for ourselves but for entire J&K as well.
