JAMMU, Feb 27: Dr. Sajjad Ul Akbar Wani from SKUAST-K a research scholar on “Aspects of Ecology and Conservation of Waterfowl in Chatlam wetland Pampore, J&K” participated in the 13th meeting of the conference of the parties on the conservation of migratory birds and wild animals (CMS COP13) as observer which concluded yesterday in Gandhinagar, Gujarat .
The conference adopted a number of significant resolutions and decisions to address the conservations needs and threats facing migratory species around the Globe. CMS COP 13 was the largest ever in history of India and the convention, with 2250 people attending including 263 delegates representing 82 parties, 11 delegates from 5 Non-Party countries, 50 representatives from United Nations agencies, 70 representatives of international NGOs, 127 representatives of national NGOs and more than over100 members of both national and international media. The theme of UNCOP13 was “ Migratory Species connect the planet and together we welcome them home”.
Dr Wani gave a his observations on the migratory birds visiting the Jammu’s Garana Park in RS Pura and other wetlands in Pampore and Srinagar Kashmir. He said these birds give a signal about the climate change as well.
CMS COP13was the first of a series of International nature related Meetings in 2020, which will culminate in the UN Biodiversity Conference at the end of this year, when a new global biodiversity strategy for the next decade will be adopted. India, as COP13 host, will assume the role of COP Presidency for the next three years.
