J&K signs MoUs with 3 CPSUs for Rs 2500 cr worth power works

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 8: The Power Development Department (PDD), headed by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with three Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) to assign distribution works under Prime Minister's Development Plan (PMDP), Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and R-APDRP (Part-B) in selected circles of the PDD. Dr Nirmal Singh, Incharge Power Development Department (PDD) told the Excelsior that total works worth Rs 2500 crores would be executed through the MoUs signed today between JKPDD and three CPSUs in the presence of top officials of the CPSUs and PDD officials. Dr Singh said the MoUs would pave the way for speedy completion of various power projects and schemes. While speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that commissioning of these projects would go a long way in providing adequate power supply to consumers of the State. It was informed that the Rural Electrification Corporation Power Distribution Company Limited (RECPDCL), Project Implementing Agency, is engaged for execution of distribution works for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh areas for Design, Engineering, Procurement supply, erection, testing and commissioning of all the material and services works to be taken-up for execution of distribution works under IPDS, PMDP and R-APDRP (Part-B) in five circles of J&K with an estimated cost of Rs.931.33 crore, on nomination basis. Besides, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) as Project Implementing Agency is signed for execution of distribution works for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh areas for Design Engineering, Procurement, supply erection testing and commissioning of all the material and services works to be taken-up for execution of Sub- transmission and distribution works of 8 Districts under RGGVY-II, DDUGJY and PMDP (Rural) with an estimated cost of Rs 507.73 crore on nomination basis and for execution of transmission works in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh areas at an estimated cost of Rs 426.13 crore, under PMDP. Similarly, REC Transmission Project Company Ltd (RECTPCL) as Project Implementing Agencies was signed for execution of transmission works for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh areas for an amount of Rs 495.54 crore under PMDP. Dr Singh said the State Government is working under a well knit strategy to ensure that the power scenario in the State is transformed towards an improved and enhanced utility by ensuring an easy access to electricity for all. He while elaborating on Government's initiatives of ensuring access to electricity for all, said that today's agreement with the stake holder is a major step in this direction. These projects will solve the problems being faced in the distribution, transmission and generation of power in J&K state and will help in proper augmentation and renovation of the existing power infra, he added.
