‘J&K tax arrears worth Rs 1,283 cr pending for recovery’

JAMMU: The Government today said that there is an arrear of Rs 1,283 crore pending for recoveries by the commercial taxes department in the State.
In a written reply to the question of BJP MLA Rajesh Gupta in Legislative Assembly today, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu said that an amount of Rs 1,283.07 crore is pending for recoveries on account of excise duty, toll tax, sales tax, passenger tax and others in the State as on ending February this year.
He further said that Rs 1,235.16 crore tax is pending for recoveries by the commercial taxes department, while Rs 47.91 crore is pending on account of excise tax.
The pendency in terms of commercial tax arrears has risen to Rs 1,235.16 crore from Rs 1,180.86 crore in 2013-14, Rs 726.34 crore in 2008-09 and Rs 464.63 crore in 2001-02, he said.
Similarly, excise tax has risen to Rs 47.91 crore in 2014-15 from Rs 20.95 crore in 2008-09 and Rs 9.10 crore in 2001-02, he said.
In short, the financial crunch in the state is because of mismatch of fund flow, Drabu said adding the amount required to clear the pending bills in various treasuries is to the tune of Rs 2,282 crore on March 18 this year. (AGENCIES)
